UPDATE: 8 Months After I Posted the Above...

So how are my foot concerns today? Untreated infection in toes led to cellulitis in toes, which led to cellulitis throughout both feet. I've yet to recover. Thank you Houston Medical Center for not doing all you could or should have done.

I wish I would have read the reviews before going! Do NOT go there. I’m still in pain - the man who saw me, I’m not even sure he’s a doctor, came in and was so unprofessional with giving me my results as if my pain wasn’t important and what I’m feeling was all in my head- hope I don’t die today

The staff was so helpful and super sweet! I felt like I was in good hands.

The Emergency Room staff was extremely. It was as if it was a nuisance for me to ask about someone in intensive care. Maybe the staff should be required to undergo more customer service training before dealing with people who could be in very emotional situations. I wouldn’t recommend this ER to anyone.

I waited in waiting room for an hour and a half while staff members just sit at Front desk looking like they have no idea what to do. Then I finally get in room and my tooth is killing me. They can't prescribe any pain meds. The rn said it only masks the problem. I explained that why I needed it. I have a dentist appointment Tuesday. So I basically should have just stayed in bed with my ice pack. I will not be back here ever again. I'll go to Perry.

Let me just say that this hospital is the worst I've ever had the misfortune of being in, and that includes several military, VA, and civilian facilities. I had an infection that would not respond to medications, but because of my history and because I have VA, they refused to do anything unless I signed a waiver releasing them from all liability, BUT doctor was not willing to tell me this... only stall me. I had to hear it from a PA who was sympathetic to my problem because the doctor kept wanting to just send me home. I eventually had to set an appointment with the VA, which eventually helped the problem, but in the meantime, my condition worsened due to their refusal to take steps to address the problem without a waiver. As a result of their refusal to treat, my condition worsened in the interim and has yet to fully recover six months later. Attitudes are terrible among many staff-workers, especially among nurses, and especially if you have any weight-related or diabetes-related problems. Doctors are lacking. About one in five visits has positive outcome and interactions with staff. If you can go anywhere else in the world, you should.

Watch out for billing, too. They have no problems going straight to collections, although the VA has paid them, double billing you for something already paid, and ruining your credit in the bargain. Once again, this last visit, VA paid on my bill, hospital sent me paperwork confirming this, yet their collections are still harassing me to pay the remaining balance, even though accepting payment from the VA means accepting payment in full. Watch out for this tactic. Hospital billing departments are notorious for "creative" financing, but don't be deceived. This one is particularly bad.
